MedusaMfr Date: 1981 – Bally Qty Made: Production Model – approximately 3,250 were made. Designer: Wally Welch Artwork: Kevin O'Connor Reasons We Like This Game: Medusa is one of the first games built with the awesome "Sqwak and Talk" synthesizer board. This allows the game to have limited speech capabilities, added music and cool sound effects! Other games built with Sqwak and Talk are: Centaur ("so odd you"), Mr. and Mrs. Pacman, 8 Ball Deluxe and Fathom. Based on the mythological creature, Medusa features lots of cool features that were pretty revolutionary for the day. First of all, it's one of the few games with LOADS of drop targets, ELEVEN in all! Add to that a split playfield, four flippers (two of them are zipper flippers!), three stationary targets, FOUR jet bumpers, SEVEN roll over targets, one outhole, two slingshots and one cool solenoid activated save post! Medusa is a single ball game and accommodates four players. It also has a nice combination of really hard shots and some close in easy ones too, making it a great game that both novice and experienced players alike can enjoy! Special Features: Medusa is one of the first and only solid state pinball machines to be built with zipper flippers. Zipper flippers are fun because they allow the flippers to move closer together or farther apart, allowing the gap in the middle to become big or small! (Nip-It and Fireball also had zipper flippers). Medusa is also one of the few games built with cool looking translucent red flipper bats! Another fun, unique feature is the user activated solenoid powered center save post! Unlike the stationary middle post, this post moves up and down and allows you to pop the ball back into play! Medusa is also a drop target players delight with it's whopping eleven drop targets! Wow!! But what makes Medusa so enjoyable game after game is the wonderfully engineered ball flow with the left and right orbits... It's a very well balanced game! Add to that a fantastic artwork package by Kevin O'Connor and you can see why Medusa is one of our favorites from the early 80's! As with all of our games, we have installed the latest rom revision. - Revision 1.0 Click here to check out our Total Pinball Restoration Process!
