Night RiderMfr Date: 1977 – Bally Qty Made: Production Game – Approximately 7,000 were made. Designer: Greg Kmiec Artwork: Paul Faris Reasons We Like This Game: The American fascination with everything on 18-wheels reached a pinnacle about the time Night Rider came out. Bally made seven thousand of these machines, and that was the 2nd run done in 1977. The first run in 1976 was 4,000! So perhaps you remember seeing one of these at your local laundromat? Developed during the transition between electro-mechanical (E/M) and solid-state games, Bally made Night Rider both ways. Because the game was so popular, Bally decided to re-engineer the game for a second run! (This game is the solid-state version) The designer, Greg Kmiec also designed such hits for Bally like Xenon and Wizard! The artist, Paul Faris (Paragon, Centaur, Eight Ball etc) brings the lifestyle of a cross-country trucker to life with the backglass and playfield artwork including a big rig, CB radios, diner waitresses and more. Night Rider is pretty challenging for a 70's era pinball machine. The mix of shots and targets makes the game fun to play but not overbearing. The game design includes long shots under the spinners up to the top of the playfield, a stand-up target in the center, and two long sets of nothing but drop targets! The highly symmetrical playfield allows for awesome ball flow, and on the playfield you'll find two spinners, two sets of five drop targets, and three jet bumpers! Additionally the kick-out hole at the top center of the playfield drives the ball right into the jet bumpers for lots of action on the playfield!
![]() Special Features: Plain and simple, Night Rider is a straightforward shooter and the best pinball player with the most points wins!
