AtlantisMfr Date: 1975 – Gottlieb Qty Made: Production Game – Approximately 2,225 were made. Designer: Jeff Brenner Artwork: Gordon Morrison Reasons We Like This Game: When it comes to pinball playing and the 1970's, Gottlieb was king! Gottlieb produced mostly classically styled machines, and Atlantis is a great example of that. As an electro-mechanical (E/M) game, Atlantis brings back the excitement of old-time pinball, and is unencumbered with the numerous "bells and whistles" found on games in later decades. Atlantis is easy to play, but hard to master. With a tough series of sequence shots and a long bank of drop targets that are blocked at the top by the jet bumpers, players need to learn to “bump” the table to really master the game! Check out the drain lanes... Even these provide an opportunity to score or keep the ball in play. See how the left drain splits into two lanes? One lane is worth twice as many points, but the other is part of the sequence that must be completed to light the special! On the right side the idea is the same... Nudge the pinball machine a bit and you may be able to save your ball from draining! Like most Gottlieb games of the decade, the open, uncluttered playfield shows off the great early 70’s style artwork. Waves of blue and sea green decorate the playfield and the back glass. The game’s underwater theme is highlighted with dolphins on the drop targets. Special Features: For more advanced players, Atlantis features nine numbered rollover switches that must be tripped in sequence to light the special! But to pull this off correctly, you need to trip one of the switches in the left hand drain lane! Two rollover stars turn off and on the three standup targets which will also advance the sequence. Atlantis features three lanes, two jet bumpers, and a bank of TEN drop targets! Each drop target scores 500 points, but if the ball drops two at once, it’s worth 5000 points!
