Batman Dark Knight Pinball MachineMfr Date: 2008 – Stern Qty Made: Production Game Designer: George Gomez Artwork: Kevin O'Connor Reasons We Like This Game: The Batman theme is about as legendary as it gets. In fact, Batman is sort of a celebrity in the pinball world, having been featured in a pinball machine for the third time! The first Batman was by Data East in 1991, the second was Batman Forever by Sega 1995, and the third is Dark Knight! Featuring plenty of video clips and tons of awesome, reverberating musical scores from the movie, this pinball machine is destined to be an all time classic! With Dark Knight's commercial success at the box office, the collectability nature of this machine is practically guaranteed. Batman The Dark Knight pinball machine is filled to the brim with everything cool about pinball... Inside you'll find the staples like three jet bumpers, two flippers, an outhole, a drop target, slingshots and even a spinner too! But there's also eleven stationary targets, two ramps, and two playfields! The game has great ball flow and lots of sweet ramp shots, with a nice flow and balance to it throughout. Batman The Dark Knight pinball machine features practically every character from the movie, with a special emphasis on the Joker and Batman of course. The action inside the pinball machine is practically non stop. There’s smooth flowing orbits, nicely laid out ramp shots, and plenty of things to constantly shoot at! The pinball machine has a fairly open playfield, but has many things for the player to aim for, and many modes to do to complete before you'll finally get a shot at the wizard mode. In fact there’s a whopping eleven modes to complete and four multi ball modes! Cerain modes have their own multi-ball modes too, such as the Batmobile multi-ball, Joker multi-ball, the Scarecrow multi-ball plus a bonus wizard mode multi-ball! Each one of these modes has a certain number of balls to it... 3, 4, and even a 5 ball multi-ball! Great for pinball players of all levels and ages, its not too difficult to figure out the basics, yet its deep enough for experienced players too. Last but not least it features many motorized toys – first there’s the rotating platform the Joker is on, then there’s the teeter totter ramp, and finally there’s the motorized crane. Special Features: The software programmer for Batman The Dark Knight is Lyman Sheats. He's is amazing. Just when you think you've seen the very best in pinball, he outdoes himself again. In fact, many of his games are our all time pinball machine favorites such as Spiderman 3, Attack from Mars and Medieval Madness! So what's so amazing? The motorized crane is pretty darn cool. We've seen it before but it's been awhile... Lethal weapon and Junk Yard both used cranes, but this one has a pinball on the end of it, and you need to smash stuff to get points and defeat the scare crow! Also, the teeter totter ramp assembly is quite unique. A ball falls on one end and the whole thing tilts to move the ball from one end of the ramp to the other. Sounds basic but wait till you see it! Finally, there’s a rotating platform with three sides... Try to score different combinations depending on the area you shoot for! The other two games that used this cool trick were Championship Pub and Stern’s Playboy from a few years ago. It's a fun feature! Also, most pinball machines only have a single level. Batman The Dark Knight pinball machine features two distinct playfield levels! Similar to Lord of the Rings, the player needs to gently nudge the ball to one of two lanes to light all the lights. It's a fun little area to score points and complete a mode! Finally, since little details count with us, all the ramps are beautiful wire form chrome plated ramps. (most games use plastic ramps). The playfield and cabinet artwork is simply beautiful, and all in all, it’s a very well done pinball machine that is difficult to master and will be enjoyed for many years to come!
